Lessons Learned from Audits of Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities

For the past few years, inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) have faced audits from external contractors at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other federal agencies. While these types of audit results are not new, facilities are seeing several claims denials are based on differing interpretations of the Conditions of Participation (CoPs), coverage guidelines, and other regulations specific to inpatient rehabilitation.

Jane Snecinski, MBA, FACHE has a Bachelor and Master of music and an MBA in health care administration from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida with a wealth of hands-on hospital administration and management experience in all the post-acute levels of care. She is the president of Post Acute Advisors, LLC, a niche consulting firm located in Atlanta, Georgia with a nationwide practice that specializes in the needs of post-acute providers. Ms. Snecinski’s focuses include compliance, medical necessity and regulatory medical record review, appeal assistance, operational assessment, and accreditation assistance. 

Ms. Snecinski is a frequent presenter for national conferences and webinars and local meetings of post-acute providers. She recently has presented for AMRPA, the Georgia and Alabama Hospital Associations, the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) as well as for the clinical and medical staff for multiple large providers.
